Aberlour Ambassadors

Aberlour has a long tradition of helping children and has focussed on delivering excellent services which are highly regarded in the social care profession. In order to raise the profile of Aberlour so that our public profile matches our professional expertise, we are seeking ambassadors who can help to raise awareness of our fundraising campaigns amongst the general public and business communities.

We are seeking ambassadors who feel they reflect the brand values of Aberlour:

  • Belief that everyone has potential for growth and change
  • Dignity and choice for service users and staff
  • Respect for the diversity and rights of the individual
  • Inclusion and participation in everything we do
  • Embracing learning, change and improvement
  • Honest and rigorous accountability for everything we do

Catriona Shearer

 Catriona Shearer 2

Catriona Shearer is the principal presenter of the morning news bulletins on BBC One Scotland - so she hasn't had a lie-in for years! She has also featured frequently on the lunchtime and main evening editions of Reporting Scotland.

Prior to TV news, Catriona's first on-screen presenting job was the online video podcast for BBC Scotland called News Weekly.

Newscaster turned quizmaster when Catriona presented a radio quiz series for BBC Radio Scotland called Soundbiters.

Catriona is a keen music fan and regular festival and gig goer. She indulges her passion for music by presenting the New Music Zone for BBC Scotland and revels in uncovering the next big thing for herself and the listeners.

Before joining the team in Glasgow, Catriona worked in Cardiff for BBC Radio Wales and co-presented the Saturday afternoon Sports programme Sportstime. She also worked as a producer across their light entertainment/lifestyle/music output.

Catriona has held many jobs in the Glasgow newsroom, from radio producer on Newsdrive, studio producer on Scotland Live and travel reporter on Good Morning Scotland to outputting the tv bulletins before swapping to a career in front of the camera.

Her journalistic career began after graduation in 2003 (BA Hons Journalism – Edinburgh Napier University).
Swapping Edinburgh for London, Catriona worked as a journalist/producer on BBC Radio Five Live's Breakfast programme, where she developed her journalistic skills but most importantly, her ability to get up early!

She also worked on the Drive programme, Midday News and Weekend Breakfast show.

Her love of music meant she was keen to be involved in Radio 1's specialist music programmes – even though it kept her up past her bedtime.

Katherine Grainger MBE

Olympic silver medallist in 2000, 2004 and 2008 and four times a World Champion, Katherine is GB's most successful Olympic female rower and was awarded an MBE in 2006 for services to rowing.

“I’m delighted to launch Aberlour’s 2009 charity trek Kilts across the Himalayas. It’ll be a hugely motivating experience and create the chance to fulfil a lifetime ambition. Most importantly though, taking part will see trekkers raise money for such a worthwhile cause – vulnerable and disadvantaged children across Scotland.

I was lucky enough to be able to share the launch of the 2009 trek with some children from Unit 2, Aberlour’s befriending service in Stirling. It was inspirational to hear their stories, how Aberlour has helped them and what their lifetime ambitions are.

Being an athlete, I understand the motivation and dedication required to fulfil such a big challenge, but I would encourage anyone who has the determination to apply for next year’s trek, as it’ll be a once in a lifetime experience.”

Peter Capaldi

Peter Capaldi was born in 1958 into a café-running Italian family in Glasgow.  He wrote and directed the film Franz Kafka's ‘It's A Wonderful Life’, starring Richard E Grant and Ken Stott. In 1995 he won an Oscar for best short film.

“I’ve been lucky enough to enjoy a successful career in acting and directing which has taken me all over the world and allowed me to experience things I’d never imagined. Scotland will always be home to me and it’s a privilege to support a charity that makes such a tremendous difference to thousands of children throughout the country each year.

Aberlour inspires children and their families to fulfil their ambitions and dreams, and I urge the public to support the charity so they can continue to build on the great work already being done."
