Official Unveiling of Sign at McNally House

Aberlour's Collydean Renamed in Memory of Late Local Hero

12/06/2009

Aberlour’s Collydean service for children with disabilities re-opened it doors today (Thursday 11th) following a major refurbishment. To mark the occasion, it has been renamed as McNally House in memory of the late John McNally, founder of the Glen Housing Association who was instrumental in bringing this service to the Glenrothes area.

A well respected local businessman and trusted member of the community, John McNally founded the Glen Housing Association in 1998 following the merger of Collydean Community Housing Association and Glenfield Housing Association. In 1994, Mr McNally approached Aberlour to run their service from the Collydean premises given the charity’s reputation for providing quality care for children with disabilities. Since then it has offered support to many families from across Fife including over 20 families during 2009.

The service, which offers part-time residential respite care for children and young people with disabilities, saw a full refurbishment completed this month. McNally House now boasts a fully fitted kitchen donated by Howden Joinery Co and a bathroom fully equipped with disabled access, as well as four bedrooms, a playroom and a sleepover room with ensuite facilities.

Jacqui Kirk, Service Manager of the newly named McNally House, said: “Mr McNally was an extremely popular and well-respected man not only in Glenrothes but throughout Fife. He was aware of our intentions to rename the service after him before his passing late last year. He had a real sense of community spirit and we’re privileged to honour his name in this way.

“We’re really excited about the refurbishment and we are very appreciative of the support we’ve received. The quality of the facilities is now second to none and the kids are really going to enjoy the newly finished playroom over the summer holidays.”

Trisha Hall, Regional Director for Aberlour's East and Central Regions officially unveils the new McNally House.
