Scotland’s leading children’s charity, Aberlour, has launched two adventurous fundraising challenges, featuring white water rafting and a firewalk - so you can have thrilling experiences and raise money for a good cause at the same time.
Katherine Grainger, Olympic silver medallist rower and an ambassador for Aberlour said: ‘These events are a great opportunity for people to have a fun time, meet personal challenges and raise money for a very worthwhile cause. You can experience the thrills of a lifetime and at the same time help some of Scotland’s most vulnerable children by raising much-needed cash for Aberlour.’’
For those who like messing about on the river, you can take part in Aberlour's white water rafting event. It takes place on the River Tummell in Perthshire over the weekend of July 10th and 11th.
The Tummel has some fun technical rapids such as Zig and Zag, the Graveyard and Shark’s Tooth. The final drop is 18 feet – so be prepared for a thrilling experience! You don’t need to be experienced in rafting – each raft will be helmed by a qualified guide who will teach you the basic skills required and take you safely down the river. And everyone taking part will be issued with a buoyancy aid.
The event is open to teams of eight, or individuals to make up a team. A £10 deposit per team member will secure your team’s place and then each participant is asked to raise a further £90 in sponsorship.
And for those of you who like it hot, why not join in Aberlour's firewalk challenge in Stirling later in the year? The event involves walking across 20 feet of wood embers burning at 1236 degrees Fahrenheit!
But don’t worry – safety is paramount, and all participants must go through a motivational psychology ‘fear buster’ seminar, designed to equip them with the resources to walk unharmed.
The training is based around proven methods – and is tremendous fun!
The firewalk takes place at the MacRobert Arts Centre, the University of Stirling, on 7th November. The minimum sponsorship of £150 includes a booking deposit of £50.
