Working with young people
Aberlour provides a range of services throughout Scotland to vulnerable, or potentially vulnerable, young people.
Our
projects aim to work with those who are experiencing difficulties that
could seriously and detrimentally affect their lives. These problems might
relate to a wide range of issues, such as family relationships, educational
problems, offending or health.
In our work we try to balance the need to provide help with the aim of disrupting individual or family life as little as possible. We endeavour to assist young people to make changes in their lives themselves and we believe that with the right help at the right time many will successfully overcome the difficulties they face.
We work with young people in a variety of ways both collectively and individually. We also work with their parents and others to help them in turn support the young people they care for.
Our projects are intended to enable young people to live within their family and in their own community. Most of our work therefore is undertaken in community settings.
However
for some young people physically living with their family is not a viable
option and Aberlour also offers residential services to young people who
are in this position. These services are designed to provide the necessary
care and support that is required to allow young people to develop and
grow while living away from their family home.
The sectors work ranges considerably in scope and scale. Current services include the provision of general information and advice, sexual health services, support to young runaways, work with young people who have acute educational and behavioural difficulties, befriending, residential care and many more.
