One of Aberlour’s disability services in Aberdeen, Kaimhill, celebrated its transfer to Real Life Options on Sunday (27 June 2010) with a cheque for £5000 for specialist disability equipment.
After years of fundraising by staff and parents for the multi-sensory equipment, Real Life Options will continue to support fundraising plans for the new therapeutic snoezelen room which will be specially designed to stimulate the senses, using lighting effects, colour, sounds, music and scents.
The service transfer, after 17 years of care by Aberlour, comes at a time when the 4 residents have grown into young adults and their parents sought a suitable provider using the option of self directed support. Real Life Options will take over the running of the service, providing care and support for the young people within the building which has been home for 3 out of the 4 young people since 1993.
Jackie Hothersall, Aberlour’s Director of Children & Families Services in the North said:
“On behalf of Aberlour I would like to send everyone at Kaimhill our very best wishes for the future. We have formed very close relationships with the young people and their parents over the 17 years since the service began.”
“I would like to acknowledge the enthusiasm and commitment of the Aberlour staff team and I am sure James, Tamara, Patricia and Gary will flourish under the care of Real Life Options. The new equipment to be installed at Kaimhill is the icing on the cake and will be a joy for everyone.”
