One of Aberlour’s most fervent supporters has been recognised for his long-term and successful fundraising efforts in aid of the charity.
Bill Cook, who has been raising money for Aberlour for many years, was recently presented with a Chairman’s Award from his employers at Scottish Enterprise for his efforts in community engagement.
Bill’s fundraising work for Aberlour is legendary having organised and taken part in many events
However, Bill is modest about his efforts, and wants friend and fellow Aberlour stalwart John Henderson (Bash) to share the limelight.
Bill said:
'Between us, we have been involved with Aberlour for more than a decade. We have both raised substantial amounts but in different ways. I have fundraised, but mainly organised events that have attracted other fundraisers. Bash tends not to organise and just keeps doing lots of fundraising activities.’
The pair’s list of events reads like a travelogue. They have taken part in treks for Aberlour on the Great Wall of China, the Inca Trail in Peru, the Lares Valley in Peru, Patagonia, and the Rickshaw Run in India, to name but a few.
They have also taken part and fundraised in many events closer to home. John’s efforts were recognised when he was honoured as Central FM’s Community Fundraiser of the Year last year and was also invited to the Queen’s Garden Party.
Not to be outdone, Bill has been invited to a similar Royal event this year .
