Aberlour’s children’s disability service in Dunfermline, Lochwood Park received a generous donation of £7,200 on Fri 26th June from Aberdeen based oil firm, Marathon Oil.
The company donated £5,000 after accumulating 1 million man hours without time taken out because of accidents. A further £2,200 was then raised by Marathon Oil worker Paul Philp and a team of three after undertaking the gruelling Etape Caledonia 81 mile cycle.
Aberlour’s Lochwood Park was chosen to receive the donation as one of Marathon Oil’s employees has a friend whose son uses the service and therefore understands what a difference it makes.
Lochwood Park provides weekend, midweek and holiday breaks for children and young people with learning disabilities that live in the Fife and Dunfermline areas and is part of Aberlour’s Fife Short Breaks service.
Jacqui Kirk, Service manager of Lochwood Park said: “We’re very grateful for the donation from Marathon Oil and the cycling team. The money will allow us to buy specialist Snozelen sensory equipment which will help make a huge difference in the cognitive development of the children. We also have a wish list of toys and activities that the young people and their families have requested, so we plan to use some of the money to help these wishes come true too.”
Marathon Oil worker Paul Philp, who also undertook the cycling challenge with three friends said: “Aberlour is a fantastic charity which helps so many youngsters and we’re and delighted to be able to offer our support. After accumulating so many hours because of no time lost for attending accidents, we had the choice of donating to charity. I heard about the great work carried out at Lochwood Park from my friend, so it was the perfect choice.”
