An Aberlour employee has successfully raised £550 for the Scottish children’s charity after completing a tandem skydive with the Red Devils Parachute Regiment Freefall Team, at Strathallan Airfield in Perthshire. The skydive was part of the Red Devils’ ‘Jump for Children’ fundraising challenge.
Fiona Bogie, a service administrator at Aberlour’s Crannog West in Stranraer, will donate the money to Crannog to help the service to continue to offer support to young people aged 12– 17 who are experiencing social, emotional and behavioral difficulties which impact on their education.
Fiona took part in a ground training session before undertaking the tandem skydive with a Red Devils team member. The skydive involved a 45-second freefall, followed by an exhilarating canopy ride to fly the parachute to the ground.
Commenting after her skydive, Fiona said: “When I heard about an Aberlour fundraising challenge to skydive with the Red Devils, I jumped at the chance! The skydive was put on hold twice due to poor weather conditions, so I’m delighted that I finally managed to do what I set out to do a few months ago.”
Crannog is a well-established service which plays a key role in making sure that vulnerable children and young people get the help they need when they need it.
Fiona continued: “The support I’ve received has been fantastic and I’d like to thank everyone for their kind sponsorship to help Crannog. Doing the ‘Jump for Children’ really is a once in a lifetime experience and it was great being a daredevil for the day!”
The Red Devils works in partnership with Click and Jump, a company run by experienced skydivers and pilots, specialising solely in parachuting and skydiving experiences for first time jumpers.
Click and Jump CEO, Adrian Wibrew said: “We’re delighted Fiona took part in the ‘Jump for Children’ sky diving challenge. It’s no easy feat jumping out of a moving aircraft, so she was very brave! Everybody had a brilliant day and most importantly, a lot of money was raised for charity which makes the day all the more special.”
Aberlour’s Crannog Service recently celebrated its 10 year anniversary of working in partnership and collaboration with Dumfries and Galloway council to enable young people needing help and support to continue in education and remain in their communities.
