Aberlour Family Outreach - Dumfries and Galloway works in Dumfries, Annandale, Eskdale and Stewartry, supporting children affected by parental substance misuse.

The service works on an outreach basis to improve family relationships, routines, educational attainment and attendance and promote better relationships between family and school.

The Parents as First Teachers (PAFT) programme  is also delivered under the umbrella of Aberlour Family Outreach - Dumfries and Galloway.

Services & Outcomes

Service aims and what we offer

Aberlour Family Outreach - Dumfries and Galloway aims to provide a range of practical and supportive interventions to children where parental/carer substance misuse is having an impact on the child’s life.

Aberlour Family Outreach - Dumfries and Galloway offers many areas of support including:

  • working with the family to reduce risk at home and promote a safe environment for children to grow and develop
  • offering one-to-one and group work with the child and parent/carer,
  • providing support to children to share their thoughts and feelings and promote resilience
  • assisting families to develop confidence and move towards education, training and work
  • assisting families to develop support networks within their communities.

The Parents as First Teachers (PAFT) programme  is also delivered under the umbrella of Aberlour Family Outreach - Dumfries and Galloway.

Who we work with

Aberlour Family Outreach - Dumfries and Galloway works with children from birth to 16 years old.

This service is also able to provide support to a child even if the family member does not wish to be involved.

General service information

Aberlour Family Outreach - Dumfries and Galloway will assist parents/carers to attend meetings at school, support children in relation to numeracy, literacy and homework and help with the transition between primary and secondary school.

We also work with the child to improve social and emotional capability and also promote resilience.

Outcomes

This service contributes to the following Scottish Government national outcomes.
