Ken Dunbar began his career in Leisure Management in Scotland in late 70s. After moving to Brighton in the early 80s then Surrey, he branched into tourism, community development and regeneration followed by five years as Director of Commercial Services and then as Assistant Chief Executive of Tandridge District Council leading Corporate Best Value and Quality Management.
Ken continued his work in Culture, Regeneration and Neighbourhood Renewal, dealing with challenging community cohesion issues in the West Midlands before taking on the post of Chief Executive of Castle Morpeth Borough Council, which was bankrupt in 2003 and threatened with Central Government. Ken helped to lead the Council from its position as one of the worst five Councils in the UK to become one of the top five Councils in the UK in 2008 (Times Best Councils and People Today awards), as well as best overall Council for community engagement, environment and employee engagement.
Ken left Castle Morpeth at the point of local government re-organisation in 2009, taking a year out to pursue a lifelong ambition to adventure cycle the full length of South America, raising money for a range of charities. Returning to Scotland in 2010, Ken has undertaken a number of Interim Assignments, supporting private companies and Charities through change programmes and significant financial and operational challenges.
He was delighted to be offered the post of Chief Executive of Aberlour in July 2011 and looks forward to helping to take the organisation forward on its journey to improve the lives of children, young people and families throughout Scotland.
