ABERLOUR CELEBRATES 25 YEARS WORKING WITH FAMILIES IN LANGLEES
Aberlour will celebrate twenty five years working with families in
Langlees at its Family Centre this year. The leading childrens
charity is having a Fun day on Thursday 2nd August to mark the special
day.
Leader of Falkirk Council, Councillor Linda Gow, will join Aberlours Chief Executive, Addie Stevenson, invited guests and the Centres staff to celebrate along with families from the local community. The event will take place at Langlees Family Centre in Dunkeld Place between 12 and 3pm.
Langlees Family Centre opened in 1982 and was Aberlours very first venture into community based services. It afforded the only pre school provision for families in the Langlees area and it also taught life skills to local parents and children. These included knitting, crocheting, baking and basic English classes. Today Langlees offers a range of services which give support, guidance and advice to children (0-12 years) and their families in the local community.
Susan Stewart, Service Manager, explains the changing role of the service:
"The work at Langlees has always been about supporting children and their families to achieve their best. In recent years this service has grown and diversified to continue to meet the changing needs of the local community. We now provide outreach services such as nurture work in the local primary schools to help children make the transition from nursery to primary school; parenting support to our youngest families as part of our Infant Mental Health Programme and Childcare and Education sessions."
Addie Stevenson, Chief Executive adds: "Im thrilled to be able to
celebrate Langlees 25th anniversary. We recognise the demanding role
of parents and at Langlees we have been able to work in partnership with
the local council to develop services that really help those children
and their parents who need intensive support to try and reach their
potential. We know the community value the service as families are
literally queuing to access them. We look forward to continuing to
develop our work to help and support parents and children in the area."
Many families who have used the service over the last 25 years, as well as those who currently attend the Family Centre have been invited to come along and join in the fun as part of the Centres silver anniversary. There will be a disco, childrens entertainers, a bouncy castle and a prize winning raffle as well as face painting, a BBQ and play activities for the children. There will also be a special birthday cake to complete the celebrations.
