ROTHES COMMUNITY JOIN FORCES WITH ABERLOUR TO HELP YOUNG PEOPLE

The Rothes community came out in force recently to join up with staff from Aberlour children’s charity to help local young people.

Moray Housing Support Service, run by Aberlour Child Care Trust, offers support and guidance to young people in the area who are disadvantaged and vulnerable and require help to live independently.

Neighbours, friends and people from around Rothes came together to help young people between the ages of 16 and 24 have a special meal over the festive season funded by monies that were kindly donated from the Holy Trinity Church, Elgin.  The young people, for various reasons, have had to find accommodation out-with the family home and providing them with a meal and a party gave them an opportunity to meet other people in similar situations and help them build a support network.

Following the Assistant Service Manager of Aberlour’s Moray Housing Support, Kitchy Whyte, attending a church group to explain the work the Housing Support Service does to help young people in the community, the Holy Trinity Church continue to be very supportive.

Kitchy Whyte, Assistant Service Manager, Moray Housing Support Service says: “We offer a service, in partnership with other agencies in the area, to help these young people, who are trying very hard to live independently and contribute to the area.  Sometimes we are doing practical things like cooking, homemaking, shopping or supporting them to access furniture for their tenancies.  At other times we could be helping them with forms to make sure they are accessing the support they require.  We are also a constant support to rely on – something they may not have experienced before.  The Christmas meal was real team work and provided a real boost to all the young people we work with in the area and we thank everyone involved for their hard work and selfless dedication in making it a success”.
