CHARITIES GET TOGETHER TO OFFER LOCAL KIDS A DAY TO REMEMBER
A group of young people from Elgin will be going on a special trip to see Scotland play Northern Ireland this week at Hampden, thanks to a charity partnership between Aberlour and the Tartan Army Children’s Charity (TACC).
The trip kicks-off the partnership between these two organisations. Aberlour is the largest children’s charity working soley for Scottish children, young people and families. The Tartan Army Children’s charity (TACC) is run by Scottish supporters, and is raising funds this year to help disadvantaged children across the country. The trip is part of TACC’s ‘ My First Scotland Match’ project to give children, who wouldn’t normally have an opportunity to go to see their national team play, an experience they will remember for the rest of their lives.
The Elgin group includes 15 young people with learning disabilities and their carers from Aberlour’s Moray Options service and 4 young people who attend Moray Youth Action and are working with Aberlour to improve their educational and training opportunities. They will travel to the match this Wednesday, 20th August. The group will leave at 1pm and expect to arrive back after their trip at 3am! The Tartan Army Children’s Charity has provided the tickets and will also give each child their own Scotland top and pocket money for refreshments at the game.
Laura Clunas, Service Manager, Moray Youth Action, said: “We offer a range of services for children and young people in Elgin. Our services include: residential care and respite for young people with profound learning disabilities and support for young people needing support with education, employment and housing. We are delighted that TACC has chosen us as their charity partner and has been so generous to give our young people a wonderful trip they will appreciate and enjoy.”
Carey McEvoy, Tartan Army Children’s Charity (TACC), adds: “We chose Aberlour as our charity partner this year as it gave us the opportunity to access so many Scottish children who would really benefit from ‘My First Scotland Match’ project.
