Aberlour Family Service – South Ayrshire

Overview

We help parents with learning disabilities in South Ayrshire to provide the best possible care for their children. Our team also carry out regular visits to family homes, to make sure children are thriving and being well looked-after.

We believe that parents with learning disabilities can be just as good at parenting as anyone else, but sometimes need an extra bit of help. Sometimes the things our parents need help with, are things that others can take for granted.

Our team exists to put that support in place so that parents can fulfill their full potential. Ultimately, our service keeps families together by making sure children are safe, healthy and happy. This means they are less likely to be taken into care.

how we help parents with learning disabilities

Firstly, our workers carry out assessments using special software called Parenting Assessment Manual Software (PAMs). This helps to identify types of extra help families might benefit from. Next, we introduce support to the family, which could include boosting life skills through cooking lessons, budgeting support and parenting sessions.

We also hold a regular parents’ forum, where mums and dads get together in a relaxed setting, to share their experiences.

We take referrals from professionals and agencies working with families. If you would like to make a referral, contact us.
