  • You’ll receive a foster care fee of £1,958.58 a month; a monthly maintenance allowance of £839.56 and a set up allowance of up to £500

what are the steps to becoming a foster carer?

  • First you’ll undergo an assessment process which takes between four and six months
  • Then you’ll complete background checks including an Enhanced Disclosure through Disclosure Scotland, and we’ll obtain references including one from your GP
  • Next there will be a series of interviews and training to help you understand the responsibility of being a foster carer and all the rewards it will bring you
  • Your application will be presented to our Fostering Panel for approval
  • When approved, we will begin a matching process between you and a child that will take at least one month
  • We’ll then begin a planned timetable of introductions with you, to help you develop confidence and to identify areas where you might need more support

Fostering means taking care of a child in a family environment, where they get the care, support and encouragement they need to grow up and flourish.
