Elgin – Activity Buddy

what will i be doing?

Aberlour Options Moray offer a safe, homely environment for children to come and stay for a short break that gives their families a rest from their caring role. Activity Buddy Volunteers are part of ensuring a child’s stay is fun, enjoyable and interactive. Activity Buddy Volunteers support in-house activities, such as arts and crafts, board games, playing in the garden, or baking, and encourage children to participate. Adventure Buddy Volunteers support staff to plan, prepare and run activities, and can engage with children in a group or on a 1:1 basis.

the impact you can make

Being away from home on a short break can be a daunting experience for children, but Activity Buddy Volunteers can play a key role in ensuring their stay is positive and enjoyable. Activity Buddy Volunteers can help children feel relaxed and confident to take part in activities. By taking part in an activity together, volunteers can motivate and reassure children, and form trusting relationships.

the benefits for you

Activity Buddy Volunteers gain valuable experience of working with children with disabilities, and understanding the needs of a child visiting for a short break. Every child is individual, and volunteers will learn to adapt to the needs of different children. As an Activity Buddy, volunteers can develop their own skills and confidence, while being part of a supporting and engaging staff team.

Activity Buddy Volunteers typically support either in-house activities, day-trips or outings once a fortnight.
