Fun for all the family as revamped garden unveiled at Aberlour Options

AN ABERLOUR disability project unveiled its brand new sensory garden, at a family fun day.  

Aberlour Options – Moray held the event in September to celebrate the completion of the newly renovated grounds.

The service offers respite breaks to children and young people with a range of physical and learning disabilities. Many of the young people using the space have an Autistic Spectrum Disorder and benefit from specialist, sensory experiences.

The revamped garden now features a sunken trampoline, underground tunnel and life-like animal statues, and was designed in response to suggestions from the children and young people who see this as their home from home.

Service manager Sheena Main said: “It was great to welcome the general public, to see the services that we have to offer at Aberlour Options – Moray. Not only did they get to experience our brand new garden, but they were able to hear about how we support families using Self Directed Support to access services, our new ‘parent hub’ and other offerings including our Options Adventures service, which helps young people with disabilities to enjoy outward bound holidays.

“It was also a great fun day for the young people and their families with games, a bouncy castle and tasty treats. We hope to make the open day a yearly occurrence and look forward to inviting more people along next year to join in the fun.”
