The Snakes and Ladders of Supported Parenting Conference has been developed by Aberlour and NHS Fife. The two organisations have undertaken a series of exchange visits for service staff and health and social care colleagues across South Ayrshire and Fife through funding from the Keys to Life Development Fund.
Aberlour’s Family Service in South Ayrshire has been offering personalised support to parents who have a learning disability since May 2013, whilst the Family Health Partnership in Fife has been supporting pregnant mothers who have a learning disability for 6 years.
The conference aims to help delegates consider how shared learning can inform a universal approach to supporting parents with a view to achieving the vision of Parenting Across Scotland – ‘A Scotland where all parents and families are valued and supported to give children the best possible start in life’. The programme has been designed with support from parents and attendees will include both parents and practitioners.
David Barr, Assistant Director, Aberlour, said: “We are delighted to be able to showcase some of the learning and best practice from this forward-thinking project. This conference has been designed to be as inclusive as possible in that it will engage professionals working across the field and parents with a learning disability. Whilst it will consider strategy, the event is focused on the day to day reality of parents and workers in this field. It’s important to us that all views are given a platform and that future planning for service delivery is made with these views firmly in mind.”
The Snakes and Ladders of Supported Parenting Conference will take place at the Stirling Court Hotel, 9.30am – 4.00pm on the 1st March 2017 and is free to attend.
