Mother and baby befrienders wanted across Scotland
Becoming a parent can be overwhelming, especially without the right support nearby. Across Scotland, many new mums experience isolation, exhaustion and uncertainty in the early weeks and months with a baby.
As a mother and baby befriender, you can make a real difference locally by supporting a parent who needs someone by their side.
What does a mother and baby befriender do?
You’ll spend regular time with a new mum and her baby. That might be a cup of tea and a chat, a walk round the park, or simply being there when things feel overwhelming.
- Offer a listening ear and emotional support
- Help build confidence during early parenthood
- Reduce isolation through regular contact
- Be a calm, non-judgemental presence
This is an in-person volunteering role based in communities across Scotland. We’ll match you with a family near you and agree a time commitment that fits around your life.
Who can volunteer?
You don’t need formal qualifications or professional experience.
- Warm and compassionate – you’re empathetic and non-judgemental
- A good listener – you can build trust and give people space
- Reliable – you can commit regularly
- Interested in supporting families in your local community
Experience of parenting or supporting others can help, but it’s not essential. Your time, empathy and willingness to be there matter most.
