Dowans Christmas Market Shines for Aberlour

12 Dec 2016

The Dowans Hotel in Aberlour held a festive market and firework night on Saturday the 3rd of December. The market was a huge success,  with 30 local businesses showcasing everything from handmade crafts to confectionery. Entertainment was provided in the form of the Kinloss military wives choir. Over 300 people attended attended the event, enjoying hot chocolate and mince pies.

The Dowans Hotel have supported Aberlour since the Murray family bought the hotel 4 years ago. The hotel was previously Princess Margaret Nurseries, part of Aberlour’s orphanage. Dowans were therefore delighted to have young people helping on the day from Aberlour Youthpoint Moray and Aberlour Options Moray, two services based in Elgin.

Lauren Murray, Dowans Hotel said “We have had a great interest in learning as much as we can about the history of this beautiful building and continuing to support  Aberlour, which has such an intrinsic link to the history of the Dowans. We love that we were able to host an event for the community, and thanks to the support from the fabulous stall holders and members of public who attended, we raised a great amount to help Aberlour in their work.”

Lydia Fyall, Aberlour said “The festive market and fireworks event raised a fantastic £2,600 for Aberlour! We are grateful for the continued support we receive from The Murray family at the Dowans Hotel and other local businesses from this area.”
