Fairytale castle event brings touch of magic to Aberlour’s anniversary
Ballindalloch Castle will celebrate the 140th anniversary of Aberlour – Scotland’s children’s charity, by hosting a Fairytale Fun Day on Saturday 13 June.
Boys and girls are encouraged to dress up as their favourite storybook, fairytale and superhero characters for the event, which will run from 1 – 5pm.
Children will take part in a sponsored 2K walk through an enchanted forest, with activities and singalongs along the way.
There will also be a selection of stalls in the castle grounds including games, crafts, raffle, tombola, face-painting, pop-up sweet shop, Fochabers ice cream cart and entertainment from a local dance troupe.
Castle tours will also be available throughout the afternoon.
Aberlour Senior Fundraising Executive Lydia Fyall said: “We can’t wait to see all the boys and girls in their costumes at Ballindalloch Castle for our Fairytale Fun Day.
“There will be lots of fun activities for families to enjoy, all in the perfect fairytale setting of Ballindalloch Castle. Funds raised on the day will help us to continue supporting vulnerable children and families across Scotland.”
The organisation started life as Aberlour Orphanage in 1875. It started life as a small stone cottage, but demand grew and later it had its own school, church and nursery. At its height, it was home to 500 children.
The orphanage closed its doors in 1967 and was replaced by a series of smaller, family-style group homes across Scotland.
Today, Aberlour continues to provide residential care for children, among a range of other services including respite homes for children with disabilities, youth projects for young people living in areas of high deprivation and crime, and support for families experiencing problems associated with drug or alcohol use.
