Strictly Come Prancing Helps Raise Funds for Aberlour

Strictly Come Prancing, the flagship fundraising event of Aberlour, Scotland’s children’s charity, has raised over £37,000 to support services helping disabled children in the Aberdeen area.

The event, which took place on Saturday (30 August) at the Beach Ballroom in Aberdeen was a resounding success. Eight couples performed dance routines in front of a live audience, and were critiqued by three Judges – David Lewis from Aberdeen’s Original 106fm, Liam Smyth of the Aberdeen Chamber of Commerce, Lesley McMullan from Baker Hughes, and Rachel Mearns from the Aberdeen Academy of Performing Arts. The event was sponsored by Petroplan and supported by Bread PR, with dance instruction provided by the Aberdeen Academy of Performing Arts.

Actress Angela Duguid and musical teacher Sali Kindley won Strictly Come Prancing – Aberdeen 2014, with their take on a classic Charleston, winning accolades from the judges and the votes of the audience.

The runners up were Keri Fraser (of Spex) and Fraser Durno (from Transocean) who also performed the Charleston, but also managed to raise the most sponsorship out of any of the couples performing – over £2,000 which will be going towards Aberlour Options – Aberdeen.

Working across the city and the shire, Aberlour Options provide short-breaks to children with disabilities and their families, including overnight respite, day-care and community based outreach.

They also provide support to young people in schools as well as in-house parenting advice and support.

Aberlour Fundraising Manager, Marie-Claire Jones said, “This was a fantastic evening which could not have been possible without the support of Petroplan and Bread PR. I’d like to thank everyone who came, participated and helped to raise a fantastic amount of money to help Scotland’s children. I’d like to pay tribute to the dancers for volunteering their time and effort to put on such a wonderful show, we could not have raised over £37,000 without them!”
