Year of Young People 2018 is an opportunity for generations to come together and celebrate our nation’s young people. Aberlour are passionate about giving children and young people a platform to share their experiences, whether that be through our Youth Steering Group or at our annual Youth Conference. This year, we’ll be sharing blogs from some of the amazing young people we work with.
First up is Cameron, who is involved in our Youthpoint service in Glasgow and is a member of the young people’s steering group.
“I started drawing when I was about six years old. I was rubbish then but I think I’ve gotten better over the years. My favourite things to draw are superheroes.
“I like all comics, like DC, but Marvel is my favourite. I’ve drawn basically all the superheroes, but my favourite drawing is the one I did of the Joker. I still need to colour it in though! It’s not just the characters I draw, I come up with my own comic sketches too.
“I draw when I’m at school, and my art teacher is really supportive. She encourages me to draw every day. I practice at home and I draw tattoos as well. My Uncle is going to get a tattoo of a design I did!
“I’ve seen all the superhero movies. The most recent one was Black Panther, I loved it! I also collect Star Wars figurines from the 70’s. I like the original ones. I have a few old comics too, one from the 1960’s! The thing to do is keep them in their original packaging so that they stay good.
“My friends all say I should do drama when I finish at school as I’m very creative. But I’m not sure if that’s where I see myself. I guess we will have to wait and see, but I’m going to keep drawing no matter what!”
