We work together with whole families where mum or dad has a learning disability, learning need or Autism and with families where mum or dad has poor mental health.
In addition, we work with mums and dads who have had their children permanently removed from their care.
Our team works with families in their homes and in the community to improve family wellbeing and relationships.
We listen to families and build relationships with them, to recognise their strengths and understand their needs.
We agree and deliver personalised support plans which help families to build their skills and abilities to handle day to day life. Our team offer reflection and learning opportunities to build on the family’s existing skills and interests. This can include supporting families with activities such as agreeing family routines and family rules or understanding the ages and stages of child development.
Using the same principles of whole family support Aberlour works with mums and dads who do not have care of their children to offer individualised practical and emotional support to improve their overall wellbeing.
We build independence and connect mums, dads and families with services and activities in their community. Through delivering the right support, at the right time, we know that families are stronger, are independent and can stay together.
Download “the world stood still but we are still here” – an inspiring new book of lockdown stories written by parents with learning needs supported by aberlour!
“The world stood still but we are still here” was written by a group of South Ayrshire parents supported by Aberlour. The families, many with learning needs, decided to support each other through the uncertainty and isolation of the first national lockdown, by writing a book about their unique experiences and memories.
