Purpose and Aims of the role

Could you help staff to plan an unforgettable, high-energy event for young people? We are looking for volunteers aged 14 – 21 to help Aberlour staff on the Rights in Practice team to design activities, support workshops, and help bring the fun, creativity.


You don’t need experience — we know you’ll still be learning. What matters most is that you bring your ideas, enthusiasm, and willingness to be involved.


What will I be doing?

  • Help come up with creative ideas for what the event could look like
  • Help staff to plan the activities, workshops, & creative sessions
  • Think about how people coming to the event will feel when they arrive and take part
  • Use your energy, creativity, and ideas to make the event special

What you’ll do before, during and after:

Before:

  • Take part in monthly online planning meetings
  • Share ideas about the activities, and feel of the event
  • Help plan what happens on the day (for example: activities, workshops, or talks)
  • Think about how to make the event fun, inclusive, and welcoming

During:

  • Help set up and welcome people to the event
  • Support activities and workshops
  • Help create a positive and friendly atmosphere
  • work as part of a team to make sure the event runs smoothly

After:

  • Share your thoughts on what went well
  • Help reflect on what could be even better next time
  • Celebrate what you've achieved together

What skills can I bring to this role?

You don’t need to have all of these – this role is about leaning as you go!

Able to come up with creative ideas

  • Good at talking with others and working as part of a team
  • Listening to what other young people want and need
  • Confident helping to lead or support activities
  • Can stay calm and help find solutions when things get tricky

What qualities do I need?

  • Friendly, positive and happy to chat.
  • Open to new ideas and kind to others
  • Reliable and willing to get stuck in
  • Works well with other people
  • Excited about helping create something for other young people

Where & When

  • Planning meetings will be online, usually once a month with flexibility depending on availability
  • The event location will be decided during planning

Duration of the role:

  • This volunteer opportunity runs for one year in the lead up to the event. You’ll be part of a friendly event planning team that meets every month over the year starting in March and ending in December, giving you time to learn, have fun, and play a key role in creating an exciting event.
