Aberlour has been celebrating Scottish Apprenticeship Week – the annual campaign to encourage employers to take on apprentices and more young people to consider an apprenticeship.

Our unique Aberlour Futures service provides an SQA-accredited training and assessment centre for your people who want to work in early learning and childcare. Declan, Katie, Charlie and Caitlyn are three young people who are training with Aberlour and are undertaking a Modern Apprenticeship in local nurseries.

They were in attendance when Kevin Stewart, Scottish Government Minister for Local Government, Housing and Planning and Gillian Martin MSP for Aberdeenshire East paid a visit.

With over 25 years’ experience of delivering vocational qualifications and training, Aberlour Futures – Aberdeen City & Shire partner with local childcare employers so that staff can acquire new skills and knowledge.

Susan Greig, Assistant Service Manager said:

“Developing the young workforce through our Modern Apprenticeship Programme is the most rewarding aspect of our SQA Accredited Centre. Our aim is to help young people develop their professional knowledge and skills to enable them to play their part in delivering high quality early learning and childcare to ensure children get the best start in life.”

With growth in Modern Apprentice opportunities across Scotland, Skills Development Scotland say apprenticeships and work-based learning are providing the skills needed for a successful Scotland.

Gillian Martin MSP tweeted:

“Was great to go to Hoodles Nursery on Friday and speak to a few of the Modern Apprentices about the value of in-work training and getting the right advice in school to make sure young folk know of all the Modern Apprentice opportunities out there”.

Earlier in the week, Derek Mackay, Cabinet Secretary for Finance Economy and Work said:

“I was particularly keen to hear about students can be both earning and learning so that’s great for retention and in terms of the skills they are building, their professional accreditation leading to employment so really excited to be part of that. A wonderful opportunity for young people and indeed all people as we build the skills for Scotland”.
